We've been calling them memecoins for years, but technically most of them aren't coins at all.

There's an actual distinction in crypto:

A coin is native to its own blockchain. BTC is a coin on Bitcoin. ETH is a coin on Ethereum. SOL is a coin on Solana.

A token is created on top of an existing blockchain. Bitcoin.com even lists SHIB as an example of a token, not a coin.

So when you launch something on Solana, Ethereum, Base, etc., you're not creating a new coin with its own blockchain. You're creating a token.

Which means almost the entire "memecoin" market is technically a memetoken market.
